WatchTower Announcing Jehovah’s Kingdom

Today’s daily text:

There are new heaven and a new earth that we are waiting. This is taken from 2 Peter 3:13. This is the whole scripture found at 2 Peter 3:13, “But there are new heavens and a new earth that we are awaiting according to his promise, and in these righteousness is to dwell.”

To please God, decisive action is needed. Recall Elijah’s words to the Baal worshippers and the apostate Israelites at Mount Carmel: “How long will you be limping upon two different opinions? If Jehovah is the true God, go following him; but if Baal is, go following him.” This is taking from 1 King 18:21. The sons of Israel knew what they ought to do, but they were “limping” with indecision. In sharp contrast, years earlier, Joshua set a fine example when he told the Israelites: “If it is bad in your eyes to serve Jehovah, choose for yourselves today whom you will serve…As for me and my household, we shall serve Jehovah.” This is taken from Joshua 24:15. Joshua and those who stuck with him were blessed with settling in the Promised Land, “a land flowing with milk and honey.” This is taken from Joshua 5:6. {What is interesting, is that Jehovah had them walk 40 years in the wilderness till all the men of war who did not obey the voice of Jehovah died. So only the faithful got to the land flowing with milk and honey.} As the Greater Joshua, Jesus is now poised to bring this corrupt system to its end and lead his followers to the promised new world of righteousness.

WatchTower: You can understand the bible

Is the bible a foreign book that is not relevant to some people? Is the scriptures in the bible too hard to understand? Do you think that the bible is just a book? A lot of people hold the Bible in high esteem, but millions of people know very little about the bible. People that are in Asia, but also in many lands where the Bible is widely circulated. There are many reasons why you should understand the bible. One reason is to find contentment and happiness, but to also deal with family problems. Another reason is to cope with anxieties and to improve personal relationships. People also want to understand the Bible to help them manage money wisely. Many people in many different countries has found that the Bible has improved their way of life a lot. They no longer feel “empty”. From the 12/1/15 WatchTower, Amit said that he was amazed. If the Bible can help millions of people, then why can’t it help you too?

The Bible started in the Middle East some 3,500 years. The Bible is a collection of 66 sacred books. The books contains things like history, laws, prophecy, poetry, proverbs, songs, and letters. The writings started 1513 B.C.E. and was completed in 98 C.E., over 1,600 years. Over 40 men wrote the Bible under inspiration from God. The Bible is a understandable, relevant, helpful, and beneficial guide. A simple question like ‘Why are we here?’ has baffled many, but the answer can be found at the beginning of the Bible. Genesis 1:26 says, “Then God said: “Let us make man in our image, according to our likeness, and let them have in subjection the fish of the sea and the flying creatures of the heavens and the domestic animals and all the earth and every creeping animal that is moving on the earth.””

The Bible is understandable in two aspects. Firstly, the Bible’s language is clear, direct, and appealing. The Biblical text uses words that are clear, concrete or relate to our senses. They use words that are common to our daily experience. Jesus used many simple illustrations based on people’s daily experience in order to teach a lesson. Another aspect that makes the Bible easy to understand is its subject matter. Myths and fables do not exist in this book. It is like a detailed book of history, telling of both great people and ordinary people and their problems, hopes, failures, and triumphs. We can relate to these accounts as put in the WatchTower.

The Bible is better understood when it is in your own language. Not a problem, the Bible is now available in many different languages now. The bible was initially written in three different language which are Hebrew, Aramaic, and lastly Greek. Thanks to the labor of all the translators that wanted the Bible to be as accurate as possible, the Bible, in whole or part, into about 2,700 language. About ninety percent of the world can read at least some part of the Bible according to this WatchTower.

It is interesting to note that the first Bible was made on perishable materials like leather and papyrus. To pass the Bible to generation to generation, they had to carefully copy the Bible over and over. Those copies were expensive and very few people had them according to this WatchTower. When the Gutenberg’s printing press was invented, circulation of the Bible increased by a big range. No other religious text even comes close compared with the Bible in these respects. Understanding it can be hard sometimes. Help is available.

Reading the Bible for the first time can be like visiting a foreign land for the first time. You are reading about ancient people, food called Manna, drachma coins, and events that are very different from today. This could be very confusing to everyone. There is help available both in the past and in the present today.

In the past, Moses was one who undertook the mission to explain the scriptures to the nation as the first leader. There were still qualified instructors of the scriptures in the ten centuries. Groups of Jews gathered together in a public square to be educated by the scriptures. Today, there are teachers or instructors of the Bible. They are called Jehovah’s Witnesses. They preach in 239 lands worldwide. They go door to door and sometimes boat to boat. They are everywhere and you can find one on your door soon.

This was just one of the articles in the WatchTower summarized most likely poorly by me. There are many other articles that help to deal with many other problems. There is an article dealing with hypocrisy and another about Peter. Even a section called “Our Readers Ask…” about real questions that people have.
